Swimming
You should be able to swim at least 50 meters in open water to ensure your own safety if you get into difficulty. So it is a good idea to go to your local pool and swim some more. It is helpful for surfing or bodyboarding as many of the muscles you use while swimming are the same as those used in these sports,especially if you do the CRAWL.
Balance sports: SNOWBOARDING and SKATEBOARDING
They are very helpful too.They have similar manoeuvres and very similar balance techniques.
Physical training
Join a gym and get a training programme or buy books about home physical exercises to strengthen abdomen, upper and lower limbs. May be the list below can help too:
